Students Exploring Career Opportunities

Career Awareness Fair for 8th graders begins the process
Each year Central Louisiana conducts a career awareness fair called Students Exploring Career Opportunities (SECO).  It is a hands-on career expo for 4,500 eighth graders in Allen, Avoyelles, Catahoula, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Rapides, Vernon and Winn Parishes, funded by The Orchard Foundation, The Rapides Foundation and the local school districts.
Students have pre-expo activities that will guide them through career interest inventories to identify 3 career clusters.  Then they are instructed to visit as many of the some 5O business interactive display booths during the expo itself, to expose them to the possibilities that they may have otherwise never considered.  The students also have post-expo activities to continue exposing them to career interests.
The SECO Career Fair is specifically designed to prepare 8th graders for Jump Start and selecting their respective Career Pathway when they enter High School.  It is important that employers participate to help young people graduate with the skills and abilities that are aligned with the needs of the Central Louisiana economy.
