MISSION STATEMENT

The Alexandria Farmers Market is a weekly gathering that connects the community of Alexandria with the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural artisans of Central Louisiana.  This connection strives to improve the physical, social, and economic well-being of the region by providing access to fresh, healthy, local food for residents, fostering community relationships, and serving as a business incubator for growers and producers.

KIDS CLUB

Kids Club allows families to shop at the Alexandria Farmers Market and purchase fresh produce. It is a learning opportunity for children and families – encouraging young people to try new fruits or vegetables, support locally-grown food, and make purchasing decisions of their own.  Kids Club operates through an ongoing sponsorship from Healthy Blue Louisiana, which funds the distribution of free tokens to children at the farmers market; these tokens are redeemable for $5 worth of fresh produce.  Bring your child by the Welcome Tent to receive their tokens, and enjoy the market together.

You SNAP. We Match!

The Alexandria Farmers Market is able to accept EBT cards, allowing individuals who benefit from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to use food stamps at the market.   SNAP beneficiaries simply swipe EBT cards at the welcome tent and receive tokens for the desired amount to spend at the market.

When you swipe your EBT card at the Alexandria Farmers Market, we match each dollar, up to $20 each week (made possible by a sponsorship from UnitedHealthcare).  This program helps to stretch your SNAP benefits.  Make $20 become $40, thanks to our sponsor.

Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)

With funding from the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry issues coupons for qualifying seniors and WIC clients.

The FMNP coupons may only be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and cut herbs (and honey for seniors) at approved farmers markets and roadside stands. The Alexandria Farmers Market has vendors who accept FMNP coupons.

Seniors can apply for FMNP coupons at their parish Council on Aging.  WIC clients in select parishes can receive FMNP coupons through their WIC clinic.

All market items must be homegrown, handmade, and/or vendor-created from locally owned operations within the state of Louisiana.  If you are interested in becoming a vendor simply read the Alexandria Farmers Market Rule and Regulations provided at the link below, and submit an application also provided by the link below.
