Race for the Cure ceremony

The 2011 Komen Alexandria Race for the Cure Awards and Recognition Ceremony will be held Dec 16 in the Alexandria Convention Hall. The second annual Komen Alexandria Race for the Cure was held on Oct. 15, with more than 5,500 registered participants.    Full article.  

 

Komen Grant Workshop

Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital Cabrini is proud to host a Grants Workshop on November 8, 2011 at the Christus Cabrini Women & Children's Hospital in Alexandria. The focus of the workshop is to educate our local community on the process and requirements for applying for a Komen grant, give an overview of the Komen organization, grants process and requirements. Nearly 6,000 turn out for Komen Race

Nearly 6,000 men, women and children made their way to downtown Alexandria to watch or participate in the second Komen race. The runner from the most remote point was from Frankfurt, Germany -- one of the judges from the Louisiana International Piano Competition that was held this week at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Building in Alexandria. The longest enduring breast cancer survivor was believed to be an 82-year-old woman from Bunkie, who walked the 5k (3.2-mile race). Full article

 

Alexandria’s Komen Race for the Cure: over 5,300 already signed up !

More than 5,300 CENLA citizens will come to Alexandria on Saturday, October 15, to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Lawrence Searcy, one of the race co-chairs: "…We really set our sights on getting 6,000 participants downtown for the race…I am confident we will be close to that number…and people continue to register."  Full article

 

Mammogram advances

Mammograms help to save lives, and last week, the FDA approved 3D technology which could reduce more evasive follow-up screenings when original mammogram results draw questions. Breast cancer kills about 40,000 women in the United States each year according to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and early detection and new technology are essential for treatment and survival.   Full article.  

 

Alexandria VA Medical Center Sponsoring Breast Cancer Program on Friday, Oct. 23

Alexandria’s VA Medical Center will sponsor a program on 'Breast Cancer Survival' at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct, 23, at the VA Medical Center, Building 8 Auditorium, in Pineville. The program is free. For further information, please contact Jan Thompson, at (318) 466-2772.
