CLECO plant to test-burn woody biomass

On the day it received a prestigious award for its innovative new power plant, Cleco Corp. announced that it would test-burn woody biomass as an alternative fuel at the Madison Unit 3, located near Boyce. The plant recently received Power magazine's 2010 Marmaduke Award. Full article.  

 

Cleco secures financing for future expansion

Cleco Corp. recently announced that Cleco and its subsidiary, Cleco Power LLC, recently finalized a revolving credit facility to strengthen liquidity and allow for future growth. Combined, the two new credit facilities equal $500 million. In other Cleco news, Mike Madison was elected vice chairman of the statewide Committee of 100 for Economic Development. Full article

Cleco welcomes new barge – the Amy T

There’s a new boat is making its way down the Red River as Cleco welcomes its newest barge to the waterway—the Amy T. A barge can hold about 10,000 tons of fuel, compared to only twenty-five tons on a truck or train. Cleco Group Vice President, Bill Fontenot: "We continue to have more product movement which means more jobs, more captains, and of course anytime we build new facilities as well as boats or barges, you're looking at more economic development for the region."  Full article.  

 

Cleco celebrates 75th anniversary

Cleco recently celebrated its 75th anniversary at its headquarters in Pineville, LA. The Louisiana Ice & Electric Co. incorporated on Jan. 2, 1935 and soon became Central Louisiana Electric Co. The name change to Cleco Corp. occurred in 1998. Full Article.

 

Mayor Roy: Utility rebate timing still unclear

Utility rebates for Alexandria citizens will not happen anytime soon, and there's no way right now to determine how much the rebates might be, Mayor Jacques Roy said Wednesday. It's not simple math, Roy said, where you can divide the $9.5 million of cash in the estimated $50 million settlement from Cleco by the amount of accounts, because two houses, each with the same square footage and a family of four living there, could have vastly different electricity consumption depending on a number of variables. Cleco preps for hurricane season

As Cleco plans for the 2010 hurricane season, this is the first time the company is considering a possible restoration that includes oil-coated poles, wires and roads. Cleco is researching the possible need for special clothing for line mechanics and ways to clean vehicle tires that travel roads soaked with oily water. The company also is working through a possible scenario where areas could be sectioned off for cleaning before restoration efforts begin. Full Article.   

 

Alexandria City Council holds meeting regarding utility rebates

Alexandria’s City Council recently held a meeting to listen to citizens' suggestions about rebates stemming from the resolution of the city's fraud lawsuit against Cleco Corp. Citizen turnout, however, was low. Full Article.

 

Council gives final approval to Cleco deal

Alexandria’s City Council signed off on a new agreement with Cleco, officially settling the city’s lawsuit against Cleco Corp. City Council President Roosevelt Johnson said resolution of the case can bring relief to everyone throughout the city.   Full Article.

 

Cleco's CARE Program Offers Discount for Low-Income Customers

Cleco is offering a new program, CARE, for low-income customers that will provide a 25 percent discount on the fuel portion of those customers’ July, August and September utility bills. The Cleco Alternative Rate for Electricity program is available to all customers who meet income guidelines. Full Article.
