Louisiana College Medical School opening may be delayed

Louisiana College (LC) officials recently indicated that problems encountered at the state level may delay opening of their much-anticipated medical school, a program that has been in the works, since summer 2009. LA College President Aguillard: “We are waiting on decisions to be made at the state level with regard to the timeline that the Huey P. Long hospital could be made available to Louisiana College." Louisiana College new divinity graduate school slated for August 2011 opening

Louisiana College's planned graduate school of divinity will be tuition-free to many students and receive funding from donations from an anonymous foundation. The Cakey School of Divinity isslated to open in August 2011.  Full article

 

New treadmill eases pain

For physical therapy patients, putting weight on joints can be damaging if they do too much too soon but—that weight is now lifted with a new technology, which is an anti-gravity treadmill called the Alter-G. Physical Therapist, Kevin Garrigan explains, "It uses air pressure in a vacuum seal to lift you up, so whatever percentage of your body that you want to remove, we can just put that into the Alter-G." Essentially, it makes you weigh less. The anti-gravity treadmill at Louisiana College is the only one in central Louisiana. People come from all over the state to use it.   Full article.

 

Louisiana College picks Shreveport for law school site

Armed with millions of dollars in donations and a geographical locale that will draw students from three states, Shreveport snagged Louisiana College's law school. LC officials recently announced that the Judge Paul Pressler School of Law will locate in the 10-plus-story United Mercantile Building in downtown Shreveport, which was counted as a $3.1 million in-kind donation by LC officials.
