Voters to decide fate of proposed Casino and Hotel

Bossier Parish voters will decide the fate of a new 18-story Margaritaville resort hotel and casino. The project would feature a 400-room hotel, a two-story entertainment complex, outdoor tropical pool area, and a 400-seat Margaritaville restaurant, plus other amenities. Full article.

 

Bassmaster Classic still set for Shreveport

The 2012 Bassmaster Classic remains set for February on the Red River in North Louisiana. BASS recently announced 29 Bassmaster Elite Series pros nailed down qualifications for the Feb. 24-26, 2012 Classic. With the nine Elite anglers who qualified earlier in the season, there are 38 who can get ready for the Red River world championship out of Shreveport-Bossier City. Full article.  

 

Tioga Road project finished after two decades

Teamwork and perseverance resulted in the new Tioga Road, a project that involves rebuilding and straightening La. Highway 623 (Tioga Road) between U.S. Highway 165 to the east and Old Shreveport Highway in the west. The project also provides better access between two major corridors in the Tioga area, and to the three schools that sit between them.   Full article.

 

Comic book creator working to solve old LA murder

A Kansas City comic book creator and self-described crime-fighting activist is trying to bring attention to his great aunt's unsolved murder in LA. At age 82, Angerleane Allen was robbed and strangled on May 14, 1996, but Shreveport police are unable to solve the case. Allen's nephew, Alonzo Washington, wants to see if he can help police, as he’s previously helped police solve other crimes.   Full article.  

 

Bass fishing program scheduled for Jan 8 thru 9 in Shreveport

The Bass University fishing program will be in Shreveport the weekend of Jan 8-9, in time for the start of fishing season. Scheduled for the Shreveport Convention Center on Jan. 8-9, the program will feature several nationally known professionals including Bassmaster Classic champs. Full article.  

 

Shreveport film studio to open in Feb

The head of a new film studio being built in Shreveport says the studio is on track for a grand opening in February. The Nu Image/Millennium Films is a 53,000-square-foot facility in the city's Ledbetter Heights neighborhood, and the soundstages and office space should be ready by late January. The grand opening is slated for February 2011. Full article.  

 

Officials say deal to move Alexandria postal operations not final, but…

U.S. Postal Service officials say a move to consolidate mail-processing services from Alexandria to Shreveport hasn't been decided yet, but the tone at a public input meeting Wednesday night pointed to a done deal.  Full article

 

Alexandria mail operations move to Shreveport appears likely

The U.S. Postal Service will hold a public hearing on whether to move mail-processing operations from Alexandria to Shreveport, on Dec. 8. They will decide whether to approve the proposal to close the mail-processing operations at the main post office on Odom Street in Alexandria and consolidate them in Shreveport. Full article

Moret: Haynesville Shale could boost chemical projects

LED head Stephen Moret recently indicated that, in addition to creating wealth in the Shreveport area, the Haynesville Shale, which could be one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the nation, could help lead to more industrial investment in south. Moret says the shale play has unleashed massive amounts of natural gas at competitive and relatively stable prices, and there are possible projects in the works now for LA that were off the table a couple years ago.
