State and federal authorities recently announced steps to ensure that the public continues to be informed about chemicals are used in hydraulic fracturing processes for extracting natural gas from shale and ensure the safe disposal of production wastewater. Full article.

 

Planning can help maximize benefits of shale impact

Todd Hall, of Environmental Resources Management, recent stated, “…Communities that have a long-term vision can realize the full economic potential of burgeoning shale discoveries, and those that don't will see at best a short-term impact.” Hall recently visited Alexandria before heading to a conference on smart growth in Baton Rouge to give a talk on how communities can maximize opportunities from shale discoveries. Shale changing the natural gas industry

The development of shale gas plays across the country, including the Haynesville discovery in Louisiana, appears to have made domestic natural gas more readily available. Industry experts say that the new horizontal drilling and fracking methods have reduced the need for the U.S. to import large quantities of liquid natural gas.       Full article.

 

Entergy report: Gulf damages could total $350B by 2030

A risk assessment recently released by power company Entergy Corp. indicated that global warming, rising sea levels, more fierce and frequent hurricanes, and environmental degradation could result in $350 billion in losses over the next 20 years on the Gulf Coast, America's oil and natural gas nerve center. Wayne Leonard, the chairman and CEO of Entergy, called the report a "call to arms" to Gulf Coast governors, policy makers, and oil and gas companies to wake up to the threat of climate change and do much more to invest in preparations for a risky future. Moret: Haynesville Shale could boost chemical projects

LED head Stephen Moret recently indicated that, in addition to creating wealth in the Shreveport area, the Haynesville Shale, which could be one of the largest natural gas discoveries in the nation, could help lead to more industrial investment in south. Moret says the shale play has unleashed massive amounts of natural gas at competitive and relatively stable prices, and there are possible projects in the works now for LA that were off the table a couple years ago. Points for Gas Meters in Snowy Weather

Keep the meter area and a path to the meter clear of snow and debris. Snow or ice formations on or near the natural gas meter set can cause potentially dangerous conditions and even service disruptions. Do not use a snow blower or shovel near the meter or attempt to remove ice from the meter; you can use a broom to keep the snow cleared around and on top of the meter assembly.

 

Are Low Energy Prices Keeping Louisiana Behind?

A recent Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City report suggests that LA and other energy states will lag behind a national economic recovery because of low prices for natural gas, which would represent a reversal of a historic trend that sees energy states leave a recession first. Full Article.
