Unselfish receivers boost to Saints passing game

This year, perhaps we can all take a lesson from the Saints offense—it’s all about “we” not “me.” This year, the stereotypical “diva” receiver just won’t make it in New Orleans’ offense, because Drew Brees spreads the ball around too much and often throws to other plays who are open. Drew Brees: “A lot of the receivers have a similar personality…They’re all unselfish players..They all push and motivate each other, even if it’s quietly.”   Full article.

 

Saints playing for seed, bye

The Saints are currently tied with San Francisco for the No. 2 playoff seed in the NFC, which comes with a bye in the first round of playoffs. New Orleans has already clinched its third-straight playoff berth, and—for the first time—have at least 10 wins in three straight seasons. Their goal:“We need this win. I think it’s enough motivation for us to go out and handle business.”   Full article

 

Saints beat Atlanta with field goal in overtime, take control of NFC South

New Orleans Saints fans held their breath as Atlanta regrouped for a fourth and less than a yard attempt during overtime.  Would the defense, which has been shaky at best, hold?  Fan hopes were realized when the Saints held their ground. Moments later, the New Orleans Saints kicked a field goal to win their game with Atlanta, giving them control of the NFC South race.  Full article.  

 

Saints beat Tamp Bay Bucs

After the Saints’ dismal showing against St. Louis Rams on October 30, Coach Sean Payton decided to make the Saints’ Nov 6 game against Tamp Bay what he calls a “bat game.” This means the Saints would play hard-nosed, physical football, which they did. And—the shiny bats they got Saturday night was a nice motivational touch.  Full article.

 

Saints stomp Colts 62-7

With Coach Sean Payton watching from the press box, set franchise records for points in a game and victory margin with a 62-7 win over the winless Indianapolis Colts Sunday night. With injured quarterback Peyton Manning, a New Orleans native, looking on, the Colts also set a franchise record for most points allowed while falling to 0-7.   Full article

 

Saints pleased with early 4-1 record

The New Orleans Saints’ 4-1 record puts them at the top of the NFC South. New Orleans' only loss was a 42-34 setback on opening night against Green Bay, and that game ended with the Saints a yard away from a potential tying touchdown and 2-point conversion. If the Saints defeat Tampa Bay on Oct 16, that would give the Saints a two-game cushion in the division. Full article

 

Saints sign new center, Olin Kreutz

An NFL league source recently confirmed that the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms on a 1-year deal with center Olin Kreutz, who played with the Bears last year. Kreutz will give the Saints a veteran replacement for Jonathan Goodwin who signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Full article.  

 

Saints wheeling, dealing, practicing for hurry-up season

Saints practice officially begins today, July 29, at 8:50 a.m.! Quarterback Drew Brees "We are all excited to be in camp. We are all excited to get to that playbook, to get into meetings, to start talking football…”  The Saints open preseason play on Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.  Regular season play starts against Green Bay on Sept 8th.   Full article.
