LSU ranked in Top 100 higher ed values

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance recently released its annual ranking of four-year institutions that deliver a stellar education at an affordable price, and LSU once again made the top 100 best values in public higher education. LSU ranks 76th.  Full list.  

 

Louisiana named State of the Year

In its fourth annual competition, Business Facilities magazine named Louisiana 2010 "State of the Year." Louisiana's recent business climate reforms, business development wins in 2010, innovative incentive programs, economic growth strategy and world-class workforce training program, LED FastStart, all contributed to the state's selection. Business Facilities also singled out the recently announced Nucor project in St. James Parish as the Bronze Award winner in the magazine's "Economic Development Deal of the Year" awards contest. LA’s program to improve Literacy is working

Usually Louisiana schools rank low in national lists, but not this year. A ten-year study indicates that Louisiana's prime-time family literacy program is one of the best in the nation. The at-risk students it serves have higher test scores than children who did not participate. Full article.   

 

Latest La. employment figures show growth

LA continues to see job growth with the state reporting an increase of 19,200 jobs in October compared with the same month last year. This marked the fifth consecutive month of over-the-year job gains. LA’s job gains came from the private sector, which added 22,800 jobs. Full article.  

 

Saints retain No. 3 ranking in total defense

The Saints’ defense retained its No. 3 overall ranking in the latest NFL stats after allowing just 279 total yards in a 20-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams’ group remained in the same spot in all three categories, ranking third in total yards allowed and passing yards and 16th in rushing yards. Full article

 

LA congressional delegation friendly to small business

A recent report from the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council ranks LA's congressional delegation as eighth-most friendly toward small businesses and the issues that concern them. The Virginia-based group produced its rankings on the basis of how senators and representatives voted on more than 20 key issues, including health care reform, stimulus spending and TARP. Wyoming has the delegation rated friendliest toward small business and Rhode Island's is ranked last. Full Article.  

 

LA roads are improving

A 2010 report from public policy research center the Reason Foundation indicated that Louisiana's highways are improving. Information was based on data given to the federal government for 2008, the most recent year complete data is available ranked Louisiana 36th among U.S. states, which is a significant improvement from LA’s 43rd ranking in 2009. Louisiana surges in business-friendly state ranking

Louisiana jumped up 20 spots in a Pollina Corporate Real Estate's ranking of the most business-friendly states. Ronald Pollina, an economist and founder of the Chicago-based company attributes LA's improved ranking to the state's new incentive programs and other efforts to promote a business-friendly climate. Louisiana's economic outlook continues to improve

A conservative public policy group says Louisiana's economic outlook continues to improve. LA ranked 16th in the American Legislative Exchange Council's economic outlook, up from 18th in 2009. Full Article.
