LSU Tigers tromp Florida Gators 41-11

LSU completed the first half of its schedule with a perfect 6-0 record having hardly broken a sweat after a 41-11 thumping of No. 17 Florida in breezy Tiger Stadium. The #1 ranked Tigers face Tennessee next, with each team boasting a 6-0 season thus far. LSU rushed for a season-high 238 yards. Full information

 

LSU to sell own brand of beer

LSU plans to sell its own brand of beer, with release planned during the fall football season. Local Baton Rouge-based Tin Roof Brewing Co. will partner with LSU to produce the beer. Mockler Beverage will distribute the beer. Currently there is no word on a name for the beer.     Full article. 

 

Bayou Country Superfest returning to Tiger Stadium in 2012

The third annual Bayou Country Superfest will be held in Tiger Stadium May 26-27, 2012. The festival, which featured performances from stars such as Taylor Swift, Kenney Chesney and Tim McGraw, drew 85,000 fans the first year and 75,000 this year. Full Article.  

 

BizTech Expo goes virtual

Business Report announced today that its BizTech Expo will make the transition from the South’s largest traditional business-to-business trade show to the first virtual business and technology exposition. On Oct. 4, BizTech Expo will open for 100 hours as a marketplace for attendees and exhibitors alike—all online.  Full article.  

 

Redistricting on hold as LA lawmakers take weekend off

bPlans to wrap up the special session on redistricting early fell behind when LA House and Senate members adjourned for the weekend. The confusion began after the Senate convened at 11 a.m. -- an hour after the posted time. Chaisson told the body that the House of Representatives had adjourned for the weekend, so the Senate should too.   Full article.  

 

How Baton Rouge measures up

LA’s Capital Region, is now in the big leagues, squaring off against the likes of Birmingham, Ala.; Memphis, Tenn.; Nashville, Tenn.; and a whole host of other major-market metropolitan areas. The upgrade opens the door to greater opportunities, but—it also means the region now will be competing against areas that have been at this higher-stakes game a whole lot longer. So, the question is this: Is the Capital Region ready to become a major market? And perhaps more important, is it capable of competing like one?  Full article

 

Will New Orleans become an island in 2100?

A recent America's Wetland Foundation report indicated that, in the next 90 years, New Orleans will be an island, and Baton Rouge will be susceptible to storm surges. According to the report, in the year 2100, New Orleans will be an island as parts of the Mississippi River sit between two slivers of land.  Slowing down the land loss will take enormous amounts of money and political will.  Full article.  

 

Riverboat cruises set to return in 2012

Connecticut-based American Cruise Lines plans to add another sternwheeler to its fleet next year, and the first cruise from New Orleans to Memphis, Tenn., will begin on Aug. 11, 2012. An official with American Cruise Lines says the riverboat is currently being built in a Maryland shipyard, and will have room for 140 passengers. Full article.  

 

The Hard Cell on distracted drivers

Watching his 15-year-old son’s multitasking ability inspired a Baton Rouge native to take his startup from a small office space in the LA Technology Park to the top of a growing global marketplace. Guba knew there was a market for technology that could block the use of cell phones and other wireless devices in moving vehicles.  CellControl controls calls and texts until the vehicle has stopped, but emergency calls are never blocked.  Full article.
