Where's Gary - December 1st to December 17

This week I’ve been working with Pineville as Economic Development Ready Community working on inventorying Pineville’s strengths and weaknesses.  The city of Pineville will hold a town-hall style public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pineville City Hall as part of the city's community assessment for Louisiana Economic Development's Louisiana Development Ready Communities program. We would love to have both public and entrepreneurial representation as we create a road map to improve the business climate for Pineville and Central Louisiana.

Where’s Gary – Nov 2 – Nov 13

Last week I worked on helping individuals affected by the International Paper Pineville Plant Closure. We are scheduling a workshop on Nov. 19 and 20 at the mill.

La Econ. Dev. (LED) selected 12 cities to participate in their Development-Ready Community Pilot Program. Pineville was one of the communities selected. We are gathering the pertinent economic data and preparing plans to remediate deficiencies identified through data assessment. This is a comprehensive program, focused on Business Retention, Job Creation, and Industrial Recruitment.

Where's Gary: Week of 10/26/09

I met with a local Bank President to explain the ELS program so he could help us identify mentors and ELS Program participants.  This led to a mentor interview in Winnfield.  I also signed up an entrepreneur in Grant Parish and a technical company that exports outside the United States and attended an eight hour QuickBooks class taught by the “Great” Keith Rabalais.

Where's Gary - Weekly Update - 10/6/09

Last week I attended the LA College Medical School presentation, which was very interesting. It is an ambitious project, and their long-term vision is to incorporate a medical research facility in downtown Alexandria. They are working with the state to use existing buildings on the grounds of Central Hospital. Their goal is to have 440 students at the medical school, which should increase enrollment for Pre-Med students at Louisiana College.

Where's Gary?

Last week, to help with our regional economic initiatives, Jim Clinton and I made presentations to form CAP Advisory Councils in Grant & LaSalle Parishes. While there, I talked about our ELS programs and ways we work with up and coming entrepreneurs. These folks help us identify entrepreneurs who are excited about participating in the ELS program. I also met with ELS Founder, Gregg Lichtenstein, and we worked on defining ELS skill levels and ways to improve techniques to move participants from one skill level to the next.

CenlaBiz - Gary's Notes - Get'n Started

What we have here is a work in progress. As entrepreneurs, we are comfortable starting a project before it is perfect, then improving it as we go, and you can be part of this journey. This is both exciting and confusing for my limited computer skills, but I am excited about learning. It takes us old dogs a little longer, but we catch on... This web site can be a great asset if we all work to make it a tool in our struggles for success.
