What do we mean by skill level and why should you care?

After 25 years of working with all kinds of entrepreneurs in all industries and at all organizational levels (Fortune 500 firms to small high tech and mom-and-pop businesses), we have noticed a pattern: there is a ladder of skills, as described in the following chart.
