La School Boards Assoc. Opposes “Race to the Top” Competition Participation
The LA School Boards Assoc. recently voted to oppose state participation in a bid for up to $300 million in a nationwide competition is called “Race to the Top,” after concluding that it would be risky for school districts to take part in the contest. Full Article.

Red River Valley Bidco, Inc.
The Red River Valley BIDCO, Inc., a for-profit business and industry development corporation, is a financial assistance corporation providing loan funds for business, industry and job creation. The RRV BIDCO supplements private lenders' efforts by either participating with them on special financing projects or by direct loans to borrower who cannot qualify under a private lender's rule. Maximum loan amount is $1 million.
Non-Bank Lenders
Non-Bank lenders are a special group of organizations that cater to businesses other lenders overlook. Many commercial banks will not make commercial loans under $50,000, and are not willing to risk investing in very small start-up businesses or in loans not fully collateralized.

LA To Get $13.8 Million For Energy Efficiency & Conservation Funding
Louisiana will get $13.8 million in stimulus money from the US Dept of Energy for energy efficiency and conservation programs to lower energy use, cut back on carbon pollution and create jobs. Full Article
Helping Small Businesses & the Arts
Small business building is at the heart of the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation, which gave $557,000 to about 250 people, nonprofits and businesses last year. This year it gave $284,000, and is working on a second round of awards for early this month.

Shreveport 's been trying to get Amtrak service into their city for decades, but even though President Obama has billions of dollars for high-speed rail as part of the stimulus package, it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon.
